Canadian Rules Nerf Dueling

Posted on Posted in Presentations

The Steampunk Symposium 2022 Program challenges you to some Nerf dueling, but with a Canadian twist — like you’ve never seen before!

Presented by Paladin West.

In Canadian Rules Nerf dueling, the combatants start *unarmed!* The weapons are in the middle of the field, the ammunition’s in the corners. It’s a hockey-style race as duelists move to the field to get their weapons, move to the corner to load up, and get busy once they’re fully loaded. Hits count on any body part (not on hanging clothing bits, or above the neck), and the format is either tournament or Sovereign-of-the-Summit; if the latter, prizes go to the duelist who wins the field five times in a row!

Paladin West (played by Victor Wong) has conducted soft-dart-gun tournaments for the Steampunk Ottawa Facebook group since 2015. The tournaments in the past used both British Rules (which resembles the ISS Olympiad format) and American Rules (similar to the movie The Quick and the Dead); upon request by a member, West developed Canadian rules for dart gun dueling in the fall of 2018, successfully testing the format throughout 2019.
