The Voodoo Carnival is only a couple of days away and among the acts that have never been seen before at this Mardi Gras Masquerade is contortionist Jeanette “Flexy” Martinez!

Martinez began performing contortion at the age of four years old. As a young girl and through her teenage years she trained in ballet, modern art dance, gymnastics and martial arts, all giving her the capabilities for flexibility an strength aiding in her uniqueness of contortion dance routines.

Jeanette has been featured in magazines, ads and newspapers as well as illustrated on the cover of Heavy Metal magazine is January of 2006. She currently teaches flexibility and contortion through out the southern states and will be opening a studio in Louisville, Kentucky.

Did you know . . . in some countries like Mongolia, many people (mainly girls) learn contortion and it is considered a nationally respected art form that holds cultural importance.
