The Steampunk Empire Symposium’s own Aloysius Fox was quoted today by the Steampunk Chronicle for an article titled “Implications of the Open Letter to the Steampunk Community”. The article begins:

If you have been following the threads on Facebook and elsewhere that trail behind the North American Alliance of Steampunk Convention’s “Open letter to the Steampunk Community” (full text below), then you may have seen some pretty ugly accusations, insults, bouts of confusion and a variety of irritated Steampunks. Comments have included the words blacklist, which hunt, mob, hypocrisy, and a variety of name calling.

The organizer of one of the events to sign on to the Alliance letter, Aloyius Fox of the Steampunk Empire Symposium, says that all the argument and vitriol surrounding the groups post has left the letter behind and spun into other grievances. “If people would refer back to the letter itself, it would be better. The letter has been left behind in the debate,” Fox says.

In an interview with the Chronicle, he went on to say that, “The Spirit of the letter was a polite reminder. The Alliance simply wanted to point out that there are admirable qualities of a guest. Guests are a draw for the conventions. People come to see the guests. You don’t want guests at your convention that turn people away.”
