‘Dandies’ and ‘Dudes’ in the American West

Posted on Posted in Presentations

The Steampunk Symposium 2020 Program explores how Dandies became Dudes and their effect on the 19th Century American West.

Presented by Joanna Williams.

Were there Dandies in the American West in the late 1800’s? Of course there were. They were called Dudes believe it or not.

Find out how and why the name change occurred, why they are NOT the same as Fops, and how they were seen by their peers and settlers.

Joanna Williams is a member of the League of Cincinnati Steampunks, the Pandora Society, and volunteer for the Steampunk Symposium.

Having an interest in the fashion and style of the 19th century, Dandies have become a focal point for her over the last few years.
