29 Weeks until Symposium 2019

Posted on Posted in Symposium Update

There are 29 WEEKS until the Symposium . . . so close to the half year mark . . . and here are a few new things!

Vendors, Presenters, & Staff

It’s September and work has begun on sorting through all the vendor applications and presentation proposals we have received these last few months, plus we have had a few changes.

Crystal Alley Johns
Saffire Ravenhart

With the formation of the Symposium LARP Troupe, as mentioned in last week’s update, there have been a few changes in the Symposium Staff line up as some of our crew take on new roles for 2019. Crystal Alley Johns (formerly the Vendor Hall Manager) and Saffire Ravenhart (formerly the Marketing Manager) have joined the troupe and are already at work preparing their characters for weekend long LARP game.

Crystal, Saffire, and the rest of the Troupe will have the fun, yet demanding, task of remaining in character throughout the weekend as they aid, and possibly hinder, attendees investigating the mystery. We will have more details of the game and a feature of the whole Symposium LARP Troupe pretty soon.

Susan Fessler
Governess Sebastian

Unfortunately due to outside obligations Susan Fessler (formerly the Safety Committee Chair) and Governess Sebastian (formerly Maker Room Manager and a number of roles) have decided to step down from their staff roles; we thank them both for their years of service to the convention and hope that they will still be a part of the Symposium fun come March.

We do, however, have some new crew members to the Symposium Staff for 2019 and will be featuring them as we draw closer to the show, starting with M. Leigh Hood who has accepted the role of Program Director for the show!

M. Leigh Hood

Some of you might recognize the name M. Leigh Hood from her days as Editor and frequent writer for the Pandora Society website, or perhaps you have been to one of her many presentations at the Symposium or Pandoracon, or perhaps you read her writings elsewhere. She is a person of many talents and we are thrilled to have her back in a major role to oversee the building and running of the Symposium’s program for 2019 and beyond.

Work on the program began at yesterday’s staff meeting, and over the course of this month we shall be reviewing presentation proposals and contacting speakers and panelists in the next few weeks. We are excited to share that we have a large number of sessions that relate to the theme of “Steamtastic Beasts” and many proposals from speakers new to the Symposium. Additionally we are teaming up with the Milford Historical Society, the Tri-State Warbird Museum, the U.S. Grant’s Birthplace & Museum, Clermont County Libraries, and other local organizations to bring in outside speakers to the convention. With M. Leigh Hood at the helm, the 2019 program looks to be even better than past year 🙂

Although the initial deadline has now passed, we are still accepting vendor applications and presentation proposals to add to our waiting list.

Design Contest

We would like to remind you our Design Contest and invited you to share your visions of Steamtastic Beasts with the Symposium. The artwork will be part of the interactive game which can be played separately, or as part of the LARP (as mentioned above), and there are prizes for the pieces selected for the convention.
